The Biodiversity of Costa Rica

Join me for this exciting and diverse workshop in Costa Rica that will run from Nov. 28th though Dec. 4th.   Workshops begin with your arrival into San Jose, Costa Rica on  the 28th where you will be met at the airport and spend the night.   Workshops end on the 4th  where you will again overnight in San Jose and plan your flight home anytime on  the 5th.

National Geographic calls the Osa peninsula the most biodiverse place on earth. Here is a link to the small gallery of images. We will have the opportunity to photograph 4 species of monkeys, 2 types of sloths, way too many birds to remember including 2 species of kingfishers, venomous snakes, 5 to 6 types of frogs including poison dart frogs, fantastic orchids and flowers, insects, reptiles etc. This workshop will have two half days of photography plus five full days of morning and afternoon shoots. This workshop will have plenty opportunities both in the wild and at setups both at the lodge and out in the field.

What is included? Pretty much everything after your arrival into San Jose, Costa Rica! Transfers to and from the airport. First night lodging at the DoubleTree Hilton (or something similar) although the first night dinner is on your own (restaurant on property). Breakfast at the hotel and then we will be taken to the airport for the 45-minute in country flight on a 12-passenger plane. Lunch and dinner will be at the lodge. We usually spend the first ½ day on the grounds (although is subject to weather change). I photographed Macaws, Toucans, monkeys, flowers, and countless other things at the resort. It does have a very nice pool and hot tub as well. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next 5 days and while most are sit-down, some will be boxed lunches in the field with options. This is a fishing lodge, so plenty of fresh seafood and everything else in between. The last ½ day will be spent on the grounds of the lodge with breakfast and lunch included. Around 3pm we fly back to San Jose and stay at same hotel where dinner is on your own again. Tips for drivers, guides, staff is also included!

So what isn’t included? Flights to San Jose. Tips for luggage porters. Alcoholic beverages (although I do think wine is included with dinner). Overweight luggage fees. (The in-country airline charges for bags over 35 pounds and carry on over 15 pounds. My checked bag was fine (90 degrees and 90% humidity) but my camera bag weighed 24 pounds over! It cost me $24 and I do believe they charge $2 a pound for overweight checked bags.) That’s it!

***The cost will be $5,695 per person based on double occupancy and is open to 8 participants. A $1,500 per person non-refundable deposit is required to hold your spot. Deposits and final payments will be handled by Karem at the resort: reservations@crocodilebay.com ***
